hoops and red tape
2004-03-03 @ 10:53 a.m.

Gosh, I have been neglectful of my diary lately. Everything is good. Grandma has moved back home and John Kerry has the democratic nomination. That was just the good stuff that happened yesterday! There doesn’t appear to be any snow in the forecast. The sun is shining and the snow is melting.

I got to train the new hire yesterday. I was drunk with power. He is in his late 40’s and has to be one of the most full of shit people I have ever met. He was a marine and a merchant marine. He traveled the world, fought in two wars and ate dogs, cats, bats and caterpillars. He rode bulls in rodeos and owned a ranch in Wyoming. He owned several businesses including a diving shop, a pet store and a novelty store. He was a year from earning his Ph.D. when he was forced to drop out and care for his sick wife and sell off his businesses one by one to pay for her treatments. Oh and he’s half Catholic and half Jewish—he’ll tell me the story sometime, it’s an interesting one.

Yeah, I don’t see him lasting very long. I doubt the experience of meeting with young mothers and filling in endless scantron dots will fulfill his need for excitement or audience. Oh well.

My own job search seems to have stalled. I’m fairly certain that I don’t want to participate in this counseling stuff anymore. I like the actual helping people aspects, but all the hoops and red tape just leave me feeling pissed off. I really think I would do well as a woman of leisure, but those jobs are really hard to come by. I never see ads for them. I almost think I should be heading back to school, but I can’t face the idea of more school debt and I once read a study that showed the more education you have, the less sex you have. I really don’t think I can afford to have less sex.

Speaking of no sex, I spent some time with Stone over the weekend. The boy still seems afraid to enter my personal space. I teeter totter back and forth between enjoying his company and conversation and dreading his calls and demands on my time. We watched Memento because my sister and brother-in-law (the vegans) had recommended it. Stone fell asleep and I just wish I had because at least I would have a good excuse for not getting what went down at all. I drove the 40 miles back to Miss Kitty’s house to have to wait for several deer to take their time in getting out of my way. Following the bright white ass of a running deer seemed a bit surreal at 11:00 P.M on a Saturday and I really can’t explain just why.

Well, I have to go up north on diaper patrol so I had best get ready.

Love to all.
