little man

I was reading in the paper today about how researchers have been looking at what parts of the brain register emotional versus physical pain. To their surprise (or maybe not) the MRI’s showed that both types of pain seemed to activate the same area of the brain—the anterior cingulate cortex. I have no idea where that is, but I feel smart just writing it. I guess previous studies have shown how physical pain is linked to violence (rats attack one another after suffering electric shocks) and so they are linking this new finding to the idea that picked-on outcasts might resort to violence ala-Columbine due to unbearable emotional pain. I’m not really sure what my opinion is on that. I guess it’s an explanation, but not really an excuse. Everyone suffers pain—deal. Another idea that came out of it was to manage chronic physical pain with antidepressants. I might be a bit of a nerd.

This has been a majorly boring week at work. I have read one book and almost an entire second book. The first was the Five Love Languages. It had some good ideas that I will probably use with my clients, but I don’t think I’d recommend it to everyone—a little to Bible-y. The second is Secrets About Men Every Woman Should Know. I have found it very informative. The sex part has been very interesting. Men don’t want a woman to “play dead” or be a chatterbox in bed. Another turn-off was too much make up. Advice for fellatio was also provided. The book recommended pretending that “your man” is 6” (or whatever) tall and that you had to find some way to express your love to this little man. The book continued to point out that spitting out a man’s essence is offensive as though he is being rejected. Yeah, I don’t really know how to comment on that.

Well, I am headed to my parents’ house for the weekend. I hope everyone has an enjoyable one.

Love to all.
