So, I’ve learned an important lesson about eating healthy. If you stop, even for a couple of days, it can really screw you up. I’m thinking that a cookie or a meatball here or there won’t kill me, but whole high fiber thing has to be kept up pretty consistently or else bad stuff happens.

I had to go to a luncheon today. The mayor/my old roommate’s boyfriend was there. I heard from Roxanne that the mayor and my old roommate had split yet again. I guess I don’t find this intriguing, but just a bit amusing. He had a major role in the luncheon today and so he did not have a chance to approach the table with my coworkers and me until everyone was leaving. He and I have never exactly been close. I have had a couple of pleasant social outings in his company, but that has been long ago. Anyway, he approached us and asked us as a group how we were and then turned intently toward me, lowered his voice, put his hand on my shoulder and asked me how I was doing. It was strangely intimate. The office manager said that she thought that he was going to hug me or something. I felt really bad for him. He’s done a number of shitty and childish things in his time, but he tried so hard for so long to hold on to my old roommate. I wonder if he must be facing his middleagedness or something.

Anyway, I sat at this, my 5th of these annual luncheons praying that it would be my last. Please don’t let me have to sit through this crap again where all of the town’s non-profits and deep pocketed people gather to gossip about one another and make catty remarks about clothing and who’s sleeping with who and who has aged poorly. It feels like grown up high school and I still feel like the bottom of the heap. Plus the food wasn’t very good.

Well, I guess I should get some work done.
